A Little Bit about Us and What You Should Know about Roofing

We have been working on residential roofing for more than 25 years at DMD Construction Services LLC. During that time, we have been installing all types of steep slope (shingles) and low-slope flat residential roofing products. Since most roof purchases are born of necessity, certain anxiety arises and we believe that we can help you. Even if you don't purchase your new roof from us, we hope to educate you in the full extent of the task at hand—getting the roof you need with the confidence you deserve. At minimum, the average home curb appeal is 50% roof. For this reason it’s important that it looks as good as it functions, which leads us to job #1—unsurpassed quality of workmanship backed by the manufacturer warranty and our exclusive life match warranty.

Re-roof: Knowing all the components is key—having them work is critical. Underlay/ice and water barrier roll at eves 3' is sufficient, unless your soffit or roof eve overhang is 16' or greater, then you should have a second 3' roll for 6'. Total coverage will be required because ice damming occurs approximately at the intersecting point of the exterior wall and the roof deck.

Ventilation: A ridge vent will only properly work when combined with proper intake vent, eve, or soffit. Sometimes, vented drip edge will be used when there is no eve. Ask which intake vent is right for your particular job.

Chimney Flashings: Chimney flashings should almost always be replaced with the new roof (unless re-roofing). Chimneys located in the middle of the roof area with no crickets/saddle should have one installed during installation process. Wrapping the chimney and cricket with ice and water barrier prior to flashing is a good roofing practice. During the roof removal process, all wall flashings should be cleared of all debris. Ice and water barrier should be stripped in under flashing. Before shingling, plastic roof cement should be used at all corners or potential problem areas. Proper nailing and shingle cut back size is also crucial to a good clean installation (no matter if re-roofing or clean deck installation). A good clean externally baffled ridge vent will perform best and help the roof reach its full life.
